We were asked to support a leading global communications company in transitioning its L-Band ground network, for satellite-based communication services to the Telco Cloud.
Our customer provides advanced, highly secure satellite and wireless networking services for a range of global markets, including the maritime and aeronautical sectors.
As a trusted partner, Flint Technology Services (Flint TS) was chosen to support this vital project.
The Challenge
The customer’s existing ground network was running on a mix of physical hardware and legacy local cloud infrastructure, which offered limited scalability or flexibility and was not fit for future developments.
To address these limitations, the company needed to transition the entire ground network to a modern, state-of-the-art local Telco Cloud platform that would support both virtualised and containerised network functions.
The Migration Solution
The customer chose to partner with us due to our extensive experience with the existing network’s core ground segment.
Coupled with a deep expertise in cloud-based technology and the complex Telco Virtual Network Functions (VNF) and Cloud Network Functions (CNF) running on the environment.
We had previously helped with the deployment and integration of the very early L-Band services of Regional BGAN in 2001, including bringing it into service, plus the satellite-based Broadband Global Area Network from 2003.
We also currently support sixteen satellite services.
The project had four main elements:
- Supporting the selection of the new Telco Cloud solution provider.
- Deploying the new Telco Cloud infrastructure into the customer’s globally based data centres.
- Deploying, integrating, and verifying the ground network components running on the new Telco clouds.
- Supporting the introduction into operational service of the new Telco cloud-based core network.
In addition to migrating existing network components, we have helped our customer introduce new nodes and services by creating and deploying new network designs to support these elements.
The Results
This project is still active and we provide ongoing technical expertise for our customer in this highly complex and major migration which spans multiple local Telco Clouds located around the world.
