Unlocking 4x Data Value in Aerospace Networks

A prominent communications service provider recognised the untapped potential of their aerospace networks data.

Operating in an increasingly complex 5G environment, the organisation looked to Flint Technology Services (Flint TS) to transition from legacy Performance Telemetry System (PTS) infrastructure towards a more sophisticated analytics capability that could deliver actionable insights and create new revenue opportunities.

The Challenge

The organisation’s existing PTS presented significant operational constraints that hindered their ability to compete effectively in a data-driven marketplace.

The legacy system offered limited data visualisation capabilities, preventing teams from quickly identifying network performance trends.

Crucially, the absence of granular, real-time insights meant that issues affecting subscriber experience often went undetected until customer complaints emerged.

Reporting processes proved inefficient and time-consuming, whilst valuable network data remained largely underutilised with minimal monetisation potential.

As 5G networks grew in complexity and customer expectations for seamless connectivity intensified, the organisation required a more sophisticated analytics approach.

The challenge extended beyond simply replacing existing systems – it necessitated a fundamental transformation in how network data could be captured, analysed, and leveraged for business advantage.

The Solution

Flint TS deployed an Active Network Intelligence (ANI) platform in collaboration with a specialist third-party supplier.

This software-based, hyperscale analytics engine was specifically engineered for 5G environments.

The solution delivered several critical capabilities:

  • Real-time, per-subscriber Quality of Experience (QoE) analysis provided unprecedented visibility into individual user journeys.
  • Machine learning-driven insights enabled the organisation to analyse, optimise, and monetise application performance across their aerospace networks.
  • Enhanced visibility across network activity and user behaviour patterns opened new analytical possibilities and expanded operational use cases significantly beyond the legacy system’s limitations.

These included VoIP and VoLTE QoE analysis, real-time subscriber insights, and cyber threat detection and analysis capabilities.

The Solution Implementation

The migration strategy integrated the ANI platform – leveraging ActiveLogic Analytics – alongside existing systems, ensuring operational continuity whilst immediately enhancing data processing capabilities.

This approach enabled a smooth transition without service disruption.

The system dramatically increased both the scale and precision of network measurements.

It collected substantially more throughput and latency data points, delivered real-time analytics at a per-subscriber level, and improved overall network observability and responsiveness.

The Result

The transition to Active Network Intelligence delivered quantifiable improvements in data accuracy and insight quality.

Throughput Sampling Enhancement

ActiveLogic captured four times more throughput samples compared to the legacy PTS. This dramatic increase enabled better detection of peak bandwidth usage patterns rather than smoothing over critical spikes that could indicate performance issues.

Latency Measurement Precision

Increased round trip time (RTT) sampling resulted in substantially more precise latency analysis. These measurements provided more reliable performance metrics, enabling proactive network optimisation.

Quality of Experience Accuracy

With more granular data collection, ANI produced significantly more accurate Quality of Experience scores. This improvement enabled better-informed decision-making across operational and strategic initiatives.

Data Fidelity

Whilst PTS reported approximately 0.3% more total bytes, ANI’s higher sampling precision provided a more realistic and actionable view of actual network performance, proving that quantity of data matters less than quality and granularity.

Business Impact

The adoption of Active Network Intelligence enabled the organisation to transform their operational capabilities fundamentally.

Teams gained deeper, real-time visibility into subscriber experience, enabling proactive rather than reactive service management.

Reporting accuracy and operational efficiency improved markedly, reducing the time required to identify and resolve network performance issues.

The organisation identified new opportunities to monetise network data through enhanced analytics capabilities.

Network performance and reliability strengthened considerably in their 5G-driven environment, whilst expanded analytical use cases – including security and application-level insights – opened new service possibilities for customers.

Partner Perspective

This transformation exemplifies the strategic value that sophisticated network intelligence brings to modern communications providers.

By moving beyond legacy telemetry systems, organisations can unlock the full potential of their network data – improving customer experience, operational efficiency, and revenue opportunities simultaneously.
