The picture above is a great example of our team spirit.
It shows our employees volunteering at the not-for-profit project, Random Café in Watford for the day in March 2024.
Volunteering is something that we wanted to do as a company, especially being employee-owned, to support a local charity.
A Day to Remember
Supporting Random Café was one of the suggestions put forward to our Employee Council by employees.
So, we donned our gardening gloves ready for a day of painting, weeding, tidying, sieving soil and more!
It was a slightly damp day, even though rain was not expected.
Nevertheless, we all had a great time together, bonding over our hard work, a genuinely rewarding experience and our shared aches and pains the next day!
We enjoyed working on different projects within the grounds and also some lovely coffee and biscuits from the café that is also located on site.
Environmental Impact
In the UK 15 million tonnes of perfectly edible food ends up in landfill each year, some of it before even reaching supermarket shelves.
Random Café aim to reduce food waste, and its huge environmental impact and have saved over 95 tonnes of food from landfill so far!
When we waste food we also waste land, water, diesel used in farming, packaging, energy to refrigerate and so much more.
The lowest carbon, most sustainable thing we can do with food that is going to go to waste (for no good reason) is to use it to feed people, rather than putting it in the bin (landfill, anaerobic digestion, or compost).
And that is exactly what Random Café does, with their onsite Café that serves tea, coffee, sandwiches, cakes, snacks, and much more!
Employee-Owned Impact
The team at Random Café were extremely grateful to have us and said:
“The work achieved by everyone would have taken us weeks to do! We are over the moon and would happily welcome anyone back.”
